Engaging in life #CommonwealthGames To the volunteers. Thank you

I recently had the privilege to receive a month contract with the Commonwealth Games as a spectator service supervisor. Not only was it an opportunity to be in a senior leadership role but it was also the opportunity to work with volunteers, a group of dedicated people who enjoy contributing to the community.  As most of you know I have been an active volunteer for most of my life either raising money or participating in support work with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged of our community.  I am still a volunteer today.

All around the world volunteers give up their time and sometimes salary to work long days in a field they are passionate about. The Commonwealth Games is one of those events that brings people together. And we were not short on passionate and happy volunteers. I was blessed to meet volunteers from all over the country who came to support the athletes and the spectators. Their contribution made for a very successful event. The Commonwealth Games was 95% volunteers and 5% paid workforce.  So, it seems fitting that I publicly thank all the volunteers who worked with me and their team leaders. If it wasn’t for all of you, there would be no Games.  So thank you. And I wish you all the best in the future.

Last day team of volunteers

The show court arena

I spent a majority of my time in the squash arena but I did also get a chance to experience one day at the table tennis too. This had to be my favourite match of the day! The para-athletes playing on centre court.

It was inspiring to watch these athletes play.

Then there are the friendships that I made over the month. Meeting new people, learning with them, making mistakes with them and enjoying their company.  The team of supervisor and our managers who rocked!  All amazing people from all different backgrounds and yet we all just clicked. Nice one team!
